Boost Your Immune System Naturally
Chronic immune related problems usually lead to chronic inflammation with chronic fatigue as a result. Inflammation is a protective reaction against injury, infection and / or irritation and is characterised by heat, redness, swelling and pain. Systemic changes, like fever, malaise and fatigue can also accompany local inflammation.
Inflammation usually begins with hyperemia, an increase in blood flow and dilation of the local capillaries, resulting in redness and heat, allowing white blood cells (leukocytes) to be carried to the site and infiltrate the affected tissue. Capillary permeability is increased, causing a net loss of blood plasma into tissue, resulting in edema (swelling). The swelling compresses nerve endings and in doing so, causes pain. If the injurious or irritating agent continues, so does the inflammation, and so does the related systemic symptoms of fatigue and malaise.
Helix Health approach aims to eliminate possible sources of infection and irritation (fungal and parasitic infections, chemical irritants and known allergens) and naturally reduce active substances acting as mediators of inflammation and as participants in allergic responses, including histamine, kinin-kallikrein system, prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
Symptoms |
Allergies
Allergy symptoms can be mild, moderate or severe and affect many different parts of the body. Symptoms of an allergic reaction can include any of the following:
- Nose: Sneezing, often accompanied by a runny or blocked nose, itching or burning
- Eyes: Tearing, itchy, swollen, bloodshot eyes with / without conjunctivitis, allergic shiners (dark circles under the eyes)
- Throat: Itching, post-nasal drip, sore throat
- Ears: Red, swollen or itchy, earache
- Face: Swelling of the face, including eyes, mouth, lips, tongue or throat, headache
- Lungs: Coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, tight chest, chest pain
- Stomach: abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or bloody stools
- Skin: redness, itching, burning, swelling, blistering, weeping, crusting, eruptions, rash or hives (itchy bumps or welts)
- Systemic: malaise (generally feeling unwell), lethargy, drowsiness, brainfog, fatigue
- Anaphylaxis: swelling, breathing difficulties, abdominal pain, confusion, loss of consciousness, dizziness, shock, low blood pressure, and if left untreated coma, or even death.
Anaphylaxis is any combination of allergic symptoms that is rapid, or sudden, and potentially life threatening. It is a medical emergency. Call an ambulance immediately if you suspect anaphylaxis.
Underactive Immune System
- Susceptibility to infection, leading to frequent infections
- Slow wound healing
- Longer recovery period for colds, flu and stomach bugs
- Severe symptoms when coming down with a viral or bacterial infection
- Malaise, exhaustion and fatigue due to permanent struggle to ward off infection
Overactive Immune System (inflammatory conditions)
- Swelling
- Redness and warmth (skin that is warm to the touch)
- Pain
- Flu-like symptoms: mild fever, chills, fatigue, headache, loss of appetite, muscle stiffness, general aches and pains
- Local inflammation causes localised symptoms - inflammation in the lungs lead to respiratory symptoms, joint inflammation create joint pain, swelling and stiffness etc.
